Fishy bubbles

I can't help myself, I'm drawn to fish...look at this cute little fella, done on a 8 x 10 canvass in acrylics. For one of the fall 2011 classes we were instructed to bring anything we wanted to paint. Lessons learned were water flow and how to make bubbles.

Fruit bowl

Another creation from the 2011 Fall art class session. Lesson that evening was painting fruit and placing the glass bowl around it. I started this shortly after Thanksgiving 2011 when the whole family was home and we went apple picking on the Kingston Peninsula, I wanted to capture the feeling of the beautiful sunny afternoon we spent outside. It is an acrylic on a 16 x 20 gallery wrapped canvas, I think it needs a different shaped bowl with more shadowing, so don't be surprised if it reappears on the blog a little revised in the future.

Stripe and whirlpool abstract

A person could get hooked on abstracts, by adding one more oil colour, titanium white, to the sap green, phthalo blue and cadmium yellow hue, from the Circle Abstract, the looked totally changed on the 16 x 20 gallery wrapped canvass.

Circle Abstract

Abstracts are so free flowing, I had loads of fun using oil paint colours of sap green, phthalo blue, a cadmium yellow hue and making swirls on this 16 x 20 gallery wrapped canvass.

The 3 dimension guitar

This is my first commissioned painting, someone was so impressed with the guitard for Scott's room they wanted one for their husband for Christmas 2011. It is also a Les Paul and I added three dimension aspects to this painting. It is arcylic on a 24 x 48 gallery wrapped canvass.

In the Mountains

This is my first painting done with a knife. It took a few classes in the fall of 2011 to finish as I was such a novice with this technique. It is an arcylic on a 12 x 16 gallery wrapped canvass. Lessons learned were various methods to hold the knife to create the feeling you want, creating a misty atmosphere in the mountains and the importance of shadowing.

Beach through the flowers

Gerry and I spent a few days at Stanhope Beach, PEI in early August 2011. I took several pictures while walking on the beach in anticipation of painting a picture back at the hotel. Gerry is a real sport and is always carting in the easel and canvass. This is a 16 x 20 arcylic on a gallery wrapped canvass.

Special guitar

I wanted to paint something very special for Scott who is an avid musician and has various guitars. This oil painting on a 24 x 48 gallery wrapped canvas is my interpretation of his Les Paul guitar.

The Blue Vase

The evening we started the vase in 2011 Spring Session of art class was a very challenging night. I think I drew at least twenty ovals and cirles trying to get the right shape. It is a 8 x 10 gallery wrapped arcyclic and lessons learned were: shapes, shadows, and contrasting colours that compliment each other.

River reflections

This 9 x 12 arcylic on hard canvass was done during 2011 fall session of art class, lesson taught was how to create a reflection on the river.

St. John River Seascape 2

Another painting created on Caton's Island in the St. John River

St. John River Seascape

One day in August 2011 students from two art classes spent a marvelous day painting on Caton's Island in the St.John River. We all settled on a beach with easels, paints and lunches and then painted for hours. This was my first "en plein air" painting experience, I did two paintings each on a 7 x 9 hard flat canvass.

Seascape

This 8 x 10 acrylic seascape was created during the 2011 spring session of art class. Lessons learned were: colour values between the sky and the water, waves and water motion, placing rocks in water, splashing paint. It certainly prepared us for our "en plein air" adventure we would take in August 2011.

Red Flowers

My painting adventure all started with a birthday party. One year for one of Natalie's birthday the whole family attended a ceramics class and I painted a yellow coffee mug with red flowers. Thus started the addiction.

This oil painting was inspired by the beautiful use of the primary colours of red and yellow that I used on the coffee mug. The canvas is a 16 x 20 gallery wrapped.

Autumn Colours

This oil painting was inspired by the beautiful fall colours, painted on a 18 x 24 x 2 gallery wrapped canvas.

Poisson in Calgary

I think my passion for painting fish began when I painted this acrylic 48 x 52 for
Natalie and Roderick's ensuite in June 2011. Natalie had a photo for inspiration and I added lots of my flare.
